HOW TO COMMENT ON THREE TEXTS AND AN IMAGE?
FOREWORD:
In order to achieve a good overall grade in English, you should study the text below in conjunction with other previously published articles, including the oral articles contained in this blog, to which you should add linking words and starter phrases also appearing in this blog.
Just learn a few phrases from each section of the documents described above and any other documents you deem useful in this blog. I am not asking you to learn a whole bunch of posts because it may seem indigestible to you. It only takes a few, hammered out regularly to stand out during your oral or written tests and thus obtain a good grade.
I) GENERAL COMMENTS / NEUTRAL COMMENTS
A) ON THE TEXTS
1- Each of these texts presents a unique perspective on the subject, providing a comprehensive view.
2- It's interesting to note how the tone and approach differ between the texts, even though they all address similar themes.
3- The authors make convincing arguments, particularly in the way they support their arguments with evidence.
B) ON THE IMAGE
1- The image adds a strong visual dimension that reinforces the message conveyed in the texts.
2- The image complements the texts well, making the overall message more impactful.
3- The visual element captures attention and highlights the key ideas of written texts.
II) CRITICAL COMMENTS / ANALYTICAL COMMENTS
A) ON THE TEXTS
1- Although the texts address the same issue, they contrast in the way they frame the problem and propose solutions.
2- One text relies more on emotional appeal, while another uses a more logical and factual tone.
3- Comparison reveals underlying biases and different target audiences.
B) ON THE IMAGE
1- The image can be interpreted in multiple ways, making it a powerful complement to the texts.
2- It provides symbolic depth that may not be immediately apparent in written content.
3- The visual exaggerates certain elements to provoke a reaction, much like one of the texts does with language.
III) INFORMAL COMMENTS / OPINION COMMENTS
A) ON THE TEXTS
1- I found the second text more convincing - it seemed more grounded and relevant.
2- The mix of formats and informal tones in the texts made things attractive.
3- Some of the arguments seemed a bit far-fetched, but overall, they got their point across.
B) ON THE IMAGE
1- This image really drives the point home - It's simple yet powerful.
2- It immediately grabs your attention and stays etched in your mind.
3- Honestly, the image says more than words could, in some ways.
